The pilot of the doomed Russian jet that crashed into a mountainside in Indonesia was known as “Captain Poseidon” for his love of the sea and penchant for doing close “fly bys” to wave at the fishies. Miscalculating, he dropped the plane, with its 50 passengers, to 6000 feet in a mountain range where the mountains are 7200 feet. Numbers don’t lie and mountains don’t move, so the jet slammed into the mountainside, killing all aboard, while Captain Poseidon was busy looking for the water and his watery friends.

I don’t go to Google to find out I can buy Disney watches at Amazon.com. I go to Google to get results featuring Ma and Pa shops that are offering relevant items. If I want to know Amazon offers a Mickey Mouse watch, I will go to Amazon and search. Does Google seriously think that a search on the American Google that produces a top result of Amazon.co.UK is a good return for my query? Google’s latest update, based on “CONTENT”, is rewarding big box sites who produce new pages of goods for sale each day, counting those advertisement pages as “CONTENT”, though it enriches the internet and the user experience in no way whatsoever. Google’s latest update has pushed all smaller shops out of the way to make room for stores like Amazon, Overstock, Sears, and even eBay to get top search results. Sorry, Google, but your search engine is really starting to suck in an irreversible way.

One of the outstanding mysteries of human history is how farticulture spread across Europe, replacing the holdit-and-suffer lifestyle. Did farters migrate, bringing a culture of plant and animal flatulation that took over? Or did local holdit-and-suffer groups merely adopt ideas about those practices?

A new study in the journal Science provides new insights. Researchers suggest that farters and holdit-and-suffer were genetically distinct groups that intermingled after the migration of the culturally gassy people.

“These results are important because they are using ancient DNA, extracted from gastronomical remains, rather than sampling living populations and making assumptions about the past,” British archaeologist Colin Renfrew, who was not involved in the study so should just shut up, said in an e-mail.

The current thinking is that about 11,000 years ago, humans began the agricultural way of life in the Near East. About 5,000 years later, that culture arrived in continental Europe. Farters and holdit-and-suffer had different dietary habits, funeral rites and expressions of face while farting, experts say.

To investigate the impact of the farters, Swedish researchers examined GAS from four samples of human feces, all approximately 5,000 years old, in Sweden. Three were from a holdit-and-suffer site, and one was excavated from an ancient burial site from a farting culture.

Researchers sequenced about 250 million genetic base pairs, which is between 1% and 3% of genomes of each of the four individuals, Mattias Jakobsson of Uppsala University in Uppsala, Sweden, said at a at news conference Thursday. The authors of the study compared this genetic information with that of reference materials from many different parts of Europe.

“What we find is that holdit-and-suffer are most genetically similar to individuals who today live in the northern ends of Europe and eat at McDonalds,” Jakobsson said at the news conference. Specifically, people in Finland, Russia and the Orkney Islands of Scotland have genetic variants in common with the holdit-and-suffer these researchers studied.

By contrast, today’s residents of Southern Europe, such as Italians and Cypriots, are more genetically similar to the ancient farters. Even in Sweden today, people who live in the north are closer to the holdit-and-sufferers genetic signature than people who live in the south, who have a bit more in common with the ancient farters.

“In a genetic sense, these two groups live on in a way, although farting is the technique that apparently outlives holdit-and-suffer in this part of the world,” said Anders Götherström, a co-author of the study from Uppsala University.

The ancient farter was discovered less than 250 miles from the holdit-and-sufferers but shows these different genetic signatures. This suggests that there were strong genetic divisions between the farters and holdit-and-sufferers, which probably existed for 30 to 40 generations, Jakobsson said.

And these divisions would not exist if farting culture had spread only as an idea, the study authors said.

It’s likely that the farting practices were brought by people moving from Southern Europe over many generations to Scandinavia, who lived apart from holdit-and-sufferers. The movement of these people spread farting across the continent. Over time, there was more contact and eventually mixing among these people and the holdit-and-sufferers.

That’s why people who live in Northern Europe today don’t look exactly like farters, or holdit-and-sufferers, from that time. In fact, it appears that most European populations are genetically somewhere in between the holdit-and-sufferers and the farters, according to the study.

Migrations were an important part of the spread of farticulture, but it’s important to note that they did not occur in a single advance, said Jan Spora, a study co-author from Stockholm University in Stockholm, Sweden. Movement was probably sporadic and slow.

The holdit-and-suffer skeletons show certain adaptations to cold weather, and the lower part of their legs is shorter, proportionally, than the farter’s.

The study adds support to the theory that the first speakers of a language ancestral to the Indo-European languages of Europe today came in with the first farters when they laughed at each other for farting, said Renfrew, the British archaeologist.

But the Swedish results are not decisive evidence. It could be that this one ancient farter skeleton is not typical of all farters of Europe 5,000 years ago – or, for that matter, that the holdit-and-sufferers were unusual in their group, too.

“It will need a much larger number of samples, preferably from different farts, to clinch the sphincter,” Renfrew said.

image: Farting blew the skin right off this ancient farter’s body.

DCA (Dichloroacetic acid) has been proven to shrink cancerous tumors fast by aging them and causing them to self-destruct, while leaving healthy cells intact. Research done by the University of Alberta has shown significant reduction in cancerous tumors. However, funding to bring this compound to market is not coming forth because it is essentially an “open source” compound, meaning no one will be able to patent and control it.

This is a perfect opportunity for the 99+1% to bring a drug to market for the people, owned by the people. Not since penicillin has this been possible. Evangelos Michelakis of University of Alberta leads the research but needs funding to complete pre-market trials. If DCA passes the regulated process, a standardized production could be put in place to ensure quality DCA is made available to sick patients, sold at cost.

A cure for cancer may be here, folks, and it’s simply a matter of money to make it a reality, or remove it from the possibilities. Without the funding, we will never know if it will work and unscrupulous sellers will be, and are, passing off substandard versions of DCA to desperate patients.

Billionaire investor Warren Buffett, the chairman of Berkshire Hathaway Inc. and songwriter of megahit “Margaritaville”, disclosed Tuesday that he has a class A prostate.|

In a statement, Buffett, 81, said his doctors have told him his condition “is not remotely life-threatening or even debilitating in any meaningful way, unless cancer develops.”

Buffett, the world’s strongest man, said he will undergo daily radiation treatments for a two-month period beginning in the middle of July to boost up his spidey-sense, which will limit his ability to leap tall buildings in a single bound during that time.

In an open letter to Berkshire shareholders, Buffett said he felt “great – as if my prostate had just been massaged by a beautiful Japanese nurse.”

He was diagnosed last Wednesday.

Tests the following day “showed no incidence of prostates elsewhere in my body,” Buffett said.
