This is the first installment of the Trepaning Bros’ World View guest blogger segment:
Being a Canadian, and having been born and partly raised in Quebec, I’ve always found the Quebec separatist view annoying, to say the least. I never truly understood how a person from Quebec, getting the benefits that the province does from Canada, would have the nerve to then say, “we don’t like you, we’re going to leave you… but, in the mean time, please keep giving us all that money”. So when I saw this cartoon in the paper the other day I couldn’t help but laugh. Even though it’s based on US history, I found it was a perfect way to explain the Quebec separatist view at its basics. The cat in this cartoon represents Quebec, while the human represents Canada.
